Photos of Williamsburg, VA

As promised, here are a few of the photos from our trip to Williamsburg, VA. We did have a great time and now I'm struggling to get back in the groove of making paper. I have a couple of new ideas.
First, this was our lunch spot in a historic building. It was off by itself, so it felt like a private dining room. Next, a home in Yorktown with cannon balls still embedded and finally a sampling of the very sweet food which the Colonists ate. The food was also very salty, which was their method of preserving meats.

Coming to end of Vacation

I've spent the week in Williamsburg, VA. What a beautiful city and area!! We, my family, have enjoyed historic Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. In fact I'm at a history overload and can't quote you any facts. Well, maybe I've remembered one--Jamestown created the first industry in the new world. With sand, silica and ash, they became glassblowers and shipped their products all over the new world and back to England.

I'll post pictures when I get home....I forgot my cable for computer and camera:-(

We'll be heading back tomorrow.

Well, I've had to strain my pulp and close the paper making machine down for my week long vacation. You don't want to smell pulp gone bad!! I am really looking forward to getting away to Williamsburg, VA with my husband and son. I'll try to blog one or two times with some photos. Hope all of you continue to have a great summer.

Spring Break Fun--Hauling Dirt and Rocks!

My family just got back from 2 nights and 3 days in the Franklin, NC area. We camped at Standing Indian Campground and it was in the thirties at night!!! My feet were cold both night even with socks. This beautiful flower is Bloodroot and was blooming lots of places.

We had fun at Mason's Mine where you dig your own dirt and sift through it. We were trying to find sapphires. My son found at total of 17 carats worth, my husband found an 8.8 carat one and I, unbelievably, found an 11.93 sapphire!!

I never have such luck and this was found at about 3:30. I was tired and not into hunting any more and it was my last bucket of dirt! I was motivated to go dig two more buckets and try again, needless to say.

The next day we went to a place to where you can legally carry out rocks. They are a beautiful green. We carried out some to put around my flower garden.
